To promote Ocean Literacy and to prepare the Asian citizens as ocean literate, an association of Marine Educators working in Asian countries is going to be formed. The first board meeting of Asia Marine Educators Association (AMEA) will be held after the Marine Education Workshop in Tokyo, Japan in October 2015. Dates and venue will be announced later.
The idea of an association for Asian marine educators was the result of discussion among the participants of recently held annual conference of National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) in the U.S. Participants from Asian countries agreed that we need to organize a marine educators group to produce and disseminate marine education resources throughout Asia. Because it is so multi-cultural, Asia needs special resources tailored to its particular characteristics. Sharing resources will provide a opportunity for marine educators to connect their networks.
If you want to join the Workshop on October, please contact Mr. Tsuyoshi Sasaki, Professor of Marine Science and Technology at Tokyo University, Japan (Email: t-sasaki@kaiyodai.ac.jp). If accepted, he will send a formal invitation letter to you so that it can help you to manage funds needed. Other organizers are Dr. Mohammad Muslem Uddin Munna from Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries at University of Chittagong; Emily King from College of Ocean and Earth Science of Xiameng University, China; and Ray Yen from National Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan.
We are pleased to invite you to join AMEA and work together to improve marine education in Asia. Please feel free to contact us.
